AFG reveal the 5 Gambia Ambassadors

Seven days ago, we began the exciting countdown to reveal our 5 Ambassadors who will represent Alternative Futures Group (AFG) during a two week study tour to develop mental health experiences in the Gambia.

Five Support Workers from AFG have been chosen to go on a two week study tour to the Gambia as ambassadors for the organisation.

It’s part of a two year partnership programme with Gambian charity Mobee, which will see the AFG ambassadors share their experiences of supporting people with mental health problems and to help with health and wellbeing matters.

Prior to the study tour, the AFG Chief Executive, Neil Campbell is also meeting the Government Ministers responsible for mental health services in the Gambia.

On Tuesday 29th October, the five ambassadors gathered at AFG’s head office, Lion Court to meet and learn more about the initial study tour.

Janet Stanton, Senior Manager Talent and Succession Planning and lead on the project, welcomed the group.

Janet said: “This is an exciting and potentially life changing learning and development opportunity. The trip gives our staff an opportunity to develop new skills and techniques and apply them in practice, in a small community within the Gambia.

“This project provides a first rate opportunity for both organisations to work together and raise awareness of mental health issues in the Gambia and to share best practice.

“There has been a real buzz across the organisation and although the AFG ambassadors have been identified, only today we’ve revealed who they are to all staff.”

Meet the 5 AFG Ambassadors

In July 2013, an announcement was made to AFG’s workforce offering the opportunity to develop new skills and techniques and apply them in practice, in a small community within The Gambia.  Staff were invited to participate in ‘Taste of Gambia’ sessions, held at Oak Lodge Independent Hospital and Lion Court, head office in Prescot, to provide a taste of the lifestyle and culture in The Gambia.  Following the Taster sessions, a panel met in September to identify the 5 ambassadors from all applicants.

Drum roll please…!
