AFG wins Third Sector Award
We are very proud to annouce that AFG’s Finance Team has won the prestigious ‘Third Sector Excellence Award’ 2011 in the ‘Financial Management’ category.
The awards, hosted by the Rev Richard Coles of BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live programme, were presented at a glittering black-tie dinner and ceremony attended by more than 500 guests at the London Lancaster hotel on Wednesday 28th September 2011.
The purpose of the Third Sector Excellence Awards, now in their seventh year, is to recognise and celebrate the work of the sector; to showcase the talent, innovation and success of not-for-profit organisations, be they large or small, registered charities or social enterprises. The Third Sector Excellence Awards have rapidly gained pre-eminence as “the Awards to win” in this dynamic, challenging, yet hugely rewarding sector.
There were 24 awards, covering the whole range of third sector activities from finance, fundraising and communications to management, governance and projects.
The Finance Team beat close contender Nottingham University Hospitals Charity in the ‘Financial Management’ category, demonstrating the enhancement of AFG’s financial reporting through working with operational colleagues to redesign the finance reports, retraining budget holders, linking payroll and financial information together and investing and implementing in a new financial planning system. This project means AFG is able to manage it finances more effectively, which allows it to make better decisions over the long term. The improved management of our resources means AFG can continue to be a sustainable and successful charity for years to come, in the increasingly difficult financial climate which it is operating in.
Sam Proffitt, Director of Finance said “I am extremely proud of the finance team and all of the corporate services staff who constantly challenge and review how their work adds value to the people Alternative Futures supports. This fantastic award reflects the dedication, skills and experience of the finance team. Their work supports the success and sustainability of the Charity so it can continue to provide excellent services today, tomorrow but also in years to come – well done”
