Certificates, Success and Celebrations
It was a day of celebration and success at our Burnley Office on Monday 14th September as 6 people supported by AFG received their certificates for successfully completing BTEC Workskills Awards.
The project was designed to enable people we support to access real working environments in the communities they live in. This was made possible by working in partnership with local businesses, organisations and employers who provided real work or voluntary opportunities.
Tracy Ashby, a Qualifications Assessor from our Learning and Development Team who co-ordinated the project said, “It was a great project to be involved in and the guys have all achieved so much and learned such a lot from their placements. The employers have been so helpful and it was a brilliant opportunity for AFG and the people we support to really connect with the local community.”
Completing the qualification included attending skills workshops with activities such as online job searching, interview techniques, customer service training and talking about the jobs that people would like to do. But, the training didn’t stop there and the employers and organisations taking part were also offered free training to help them understand how to support a person with learning disabilities in the workplace.
SAMS Volunteer Programme told us, “Over the last year we have had a number of referrals from AFG… The One Page Profile has been an excellent way of helping us to understand the needs of the new volunteer in a short space of time. The training provided was excellent.”
Tracy described how the presentation of certificates was a nice way to wrap the project up, “This really is the icing on the cake and I’m so proud of the outcome. People supported by AFG are making a positive difference in their communities, making new friends and feeling valued. In addition, the project has helped AFG to connect with other local organisations and build practical working relationships.”
