Childwall Brook turns 21

Childwall Brook, Adult Care Home with Nursing, is celebrating 21 years of service this year and they’re not the only one’s celebrating, Mary Threlfall and Sue Downey have been with the service since it was formed in 1993.

To mark this very special occasion Childwall Brook staff members decided to double the celebration and throw a surprise birthday party for their longest serving staff members.

A day of trickery lay ahead as Vicki Wilson, Registered Manager at Childwall Brook, did her best to keep the party at secret from both Mary and Sue.

Party food, bouquets of flowers and drinks managed to sneak past unnoticed and Mary and Sue didn’t even suspect a thing as they approached the kitchen where catering staff were busy preparing the food for the afternoon’s celebrations.

With Plan A complete, Vicki Wilson, whisked the ladies off to AFG’s Head Office to get them some new ID badges which they didn’t actually need. This left the coast clear for staff members and the people we support at Childwall Brook to decorate the dining room ready for the party.

A detour on the way back from AFG’s Head Office and a full car park as they approached Childwall Brook still didn’t give the game away; Mary and Sue didn’t suspect a thing.

As Mary and Sue were escorted into a beautifully decorated dining room, Vikki revealed that they didn’t actually need to renew their AFG ID badges, and a huge round of applause was heard.

Vicki Wilson, Registered Manager at Childwall Brook said: “A flabbergasted Mary and Sue were a little shocked to say the least but we can’t reveal the exact words they said! Everyone had a lovely buffet and there were even some teary eyes in the house. I’d just like to say Happy Birthday to Childwall Brook and here’s to the next 21 years.”
