Coffee morning set to mark Learning Disability Week in Lancashire
People with a learning disability and their families from ‘AFG Lancashire’ are coming together for a coffee morning in Skelmersdale on Friday 23rd August to mark Learning Disability Week 2013 (19 – 25 August).
It will take place at the Digmoor Community Centre from 9.30am.
At the coffee morning those attending will have the chance to raise awareness of learning disabilities over a cuppa and a cake baked by the people supported in the area.
Laurence Nelson, Area Manager of AFG for Lancashire who helped organise the event in partnership with Lancashire Provider network said: “We hope that the event will bring together friends and family of the people supported in Lancashire to mark the end of Learning Disability Week. It’s a good chance to have fun, meet other families and people who are affected by learning disability and find out more about the support that’s available locally from AFG.”
The Lancashire event is just one of a whole host of activities being planned across the country for Learning Disability Week, which is organised annually by the charity Mencap. This year a key aim of the week is to strengthen networks of support in local communities by funding events that bring families affected by learning disability together.
Nanette Mellor at Mencap said: “We are absolutely thrilled that people with a learning disability and their families are coming together to hold this event in support of Learning Disability Week 2013.”
