Coming of age in Lancashire
In line with AFG’s 21st birthday celebrations this year, AFG Lancashire recently hosted a event for the people we support and work with to commemorate our coming of age.
The theme of the event was ‘Lancashire’ and celebrated the local community which included a session on compiling ’21 interesting facts about Lancashire’. Did you know, Liverpool was part of Lancashire until 1974? And – it takes 7 years to paint Blackpool Tower from top to bottom?
Jolene Swain, Area Manager said “The event gave people the opportunity to celebrate the good work that has taken place across East Lancashire and to reflect on what was a difficult year in 2012. To add fun to the event we took a trip down memory lane by reflection on our Lancashire childhoods and the things that make Lancashire special.”
Some of the childhood memories included Pac Man, making rose perfumes and sugar butties! And from sugar butties to tatties, guests enjoyed a classic supper of Tattie Hash; a traditional English recipe from Lancashire of potatoes, corned beef, onion and carrot cooked in a milk and water mix that’s then mashed and served with a crust on the side. Delicious!
“The event was enjoyed by all who attended and we are hoping to hold more events throughout the year”, said Jolene.
