Driving up quality
Alternative Futures Group are pleased to sign up to the Driving Up Quality Code showing our commitment to providing the highest quality of support to people with learning disabilities and mental health needs across the North West.
This year, in our 21st year of supporting people we continue to strive to deliver our vision and values to enable people to live the lives they choose.
The code strengthens our commitment to bring about real change in the way our services are provided.
Jenny Chapman, Head of Quality Assurance and Practice at Alternative Futures Group said: “The code echoes what we as an organisation believe to be fundamental to practice and service delivery. This is a great opportunity to join like minded organisations in making a public commitment to delivering services where what matters most, our people, is central to all that we do.”
The Driving Up Quality Alliance developed the code in response to events at Winterbourne View, to ensure that the abuse of people with learning disabilities there is not repeated. Providers of learning disability services and commissioners can voluntarily sign up to the code, which is designed to create and build a passion in the learning disability sector to provide high quality, values-led services, delivering a clear message to the sector about what is and is not acceptable practice; as well as promoting a culture of openness and honesty.
The code focuses on five key areas:
• Support is focussed on the person
• The person is supported to have an ordinary and meaningful life
• Care and support focuses on people being happy and having a good quality of life
• A good culture is important to the organisation
• Managers and board members lead and run the organisation well
