Feeling Blue for 50 Miles?
Every year Phil Noon, an AFG Team Leader from Liverpool, dedicates his time to raising funds for a charity close to his heart.
The Everton Former Players’ Foundation raises funds to help former players with medical assistance and other requirements. The mega-salaries of today’s stars are a relatively recent phenomenon and many former players find themselves struggling to meet medical bills and other costs.
As a former footballer, Phil knows that for some it can be hard to find alternative work when the playing days are over. Phil told us, “I’m fortunate enough to have been able to build a career outside of football and I’ve worked in different industries including Logistics and Distribution and now Health & Social Care with AFG. Sadly, not everyone manages to find an alternative career and things can be tough once you leave the game, whether it’s through injury or retirement.”
“Each year I work with the foundation to organise and take part in fund-raising events like charity football matches and this year we’ll also be doing a 50 mile charity bike ride. I’ve been training as much as possible, but it’s going to be tough!”
Previous charity games have taken place at Goodison Park and once again the home of the Mighty Blues will host the match this year on 20th May. Participants pay to take part and raise funds through sponsorship, with proceeds being donated to the Foundation.
Phil’s 50 mile ride will take place on 30th April and he’ll be completing the half century with around 10 other people.
