Fylde man is DJ for AFG’s special birthday show

A special radio show has been broadcast to celebrate the first birthday of a partnership between LDOK.net, an inclusive online radio station and Alternative Futures Group (AFG).

The project has seen people supported by AFG, who sit on the Service Users Representative Forum (SURF), hosting a show on the station which has 35,000 people tuning in every month.

The guest presenter for the anniversary ‘SURFing the Airwaves’ show was John Ryecroft who is supported by AFG in Kirkham in Fylde.

John, who’s originally from Liverpool told listeners how AFG has helped him regain his independence and become an active member of his community.

He said: “I was so pleased to present the first birthday show and tell everyone how my new found independence means I can again enjoy my hobbies of acting and dancing.

“I also had some special song requests from people AFG supports in and around Lancashire. I enjoyed it so much that I can’t wait to get back behind the microphone to give it another go.”

Carol Toner, Community Service Director at AFG said: “This is a significant milestone for what has been a hugely successful initiative for everyone involved. We’re delighted to continue this partnership with LDOK which is helping to combat and challenge stigma.”

‘SURFing the Airwaves’ is broadcast at 11am on every second Monday of the month on www.ldok.net.
