John’s 5 mile cycle for Comic Relief
As 2012 draws to a close we’re reflecting on the achievements of our Service Users over the past year.
Here Service User John shares his charity fundraising with us from March, including a personal thank you from Lenny Henry!
My name is John and I live in Lancaster. This year I decided to raise money for Comic Relief, Red Nose Day. Comic Relief is a major charity based in the UK which strives to create a just world, free from poverty.
I love to cycle so I signed myself up to complete a 5mile cycle from Salt Ayre Sports Centre to the Morecambe Promenade. I started collecting sponsors on Wednesday 21st March 2012. I visited all my kind neighbours and asked Support Staff to sponsor me. I made a grand total of £107 which I am really pleased about.
I completed the 5 mile cycle on Friday 23rd March which was a big challenge as I have Cerebral Palsy. I was helped by my Support Worker Amanda Vaughan. All the sponsor money was collected on 25th March.
The £107 I raised is enough to pay for a child living on the streets in Uganda to attend school for a whole year and work towards a brighter future. I received a personalised card from Lenny Henry thanking me for my efforts. I am looking forward to raising funds again next year.
