Men’s Health Open Day, Lea Court
The people we support and their families along with people from the wider community were invited to attend a Men’s Health Open Day at Lea Court on Tuesday 16th June.
Men’s Health Week 2015 focuses on healthy living, challenging men to look after their relationships and wellbeing, quit smoking, drink sensibly, be active, watch their weight and have an NHS health check (menshealthforum.org.uk)
There were activities running throughout the day. Activities were linked to Men’s Health including a healthy eating workshop, drug and alcohol awareness supported by Pathways to Recovery, Warrington and circuit training sessions led by Paul Redhead, TMVA Facilitator for Alternative Futures Group.
To demonstrate that healthy food can be fun, fruit displays were prepared in the shape of pizzas, trains and even palm trees! Fresh smoothies were made to order in a choice of delicious flavours and there were freshly baked cakes to be enjoyed….everything in moderation! People were invited to take part in a treasure hunt for a chance to win the golden banana and there was a tombola raising money for day trips the people we support at Lea Court wish to take including a seaside trip to Blackpool.
The circuit training sessions proved to be a real hit and will continue to run weekly throughout our Treatment and Recovery Centre’s. Paul gave a taster with 10 minute sessions running throughout the day with the people we support and staff taking part.
Carol Naylor, Registered Manager said “The turnout has been great and we are delighted to be joined by Pathways to Recover who are talking about the effect of drug and alcohol use on men’s health. It has been a great opportunity to educate people on healthy eating and the importance of physical activity on their wellbeing.”
