Out with the old, in with the upcycled!
The people we support at Weaver Lodge treatment and recovery centre in Winsford have been working hard upcycling their old furniture to give it a new lease of life.
Upcycle: To reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.
Weaver Lodge has recently undergone a substantial refurbishment with private bedrooms and communal areas being redecorated but as a result, staff and the people we support there felt that the furniture was looking a little tired.
Emma Bates, Occupational Therapist led the project and was keen to involve the people we support. The group chose a coffee table and a reception table which otherwise would have been thrown out and began by sanding down and repainting the tables. Decopatch paper was then used to decorate the tables making them brighter and more pleasing to the eye. The project ran over a couple of weeks and the furniture was left in the activity room so the people we support could get involved whenever they wanted.
Bruno, supported at Weaver Lodge said “I really enjoyed the project, it was relaxing and it was nice to see the end result”
Emma Bates said “We had great fun upcycling the furniture and it was great to be able to involve the people we support. The group are decorating more coffee tables as we speak, at this rate there will be no plain furniture left in Weaver Lodge”
