Read all about it! AFG set up book stall at Rochdale Infirmary
AFG Rochdale have set up a weekly book stall within the Outpatients Reception of the Rochdale Infirmary to raise money for the hospital.
Together with community partners Pure Innovations, and the Royal Voluntary Service (formerly The Women’s Royal Voluntary Service, WRVS) the book stall will be open within the Outpatients Reception of the Rochdale Infirmary every Thursday from 10.00am-12.00pm.
Alternative Futures Group Team Leaders Sarah Kissack and Marie Brennan, along with Georgina, who is supported in AFG Rochdale, are leading on this project with Jemma Heyes of Pure Innovations.
Sarah Kissack of AFG Rochdale said: “The weekly book stall is to raise money for the hospital. We’ve linked up with the Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) who are a voluntary service already operating in the Royal Infirmary running a Hospital Shop, serving patients with refreshments and snacks. By partnering with them, we can learn from their experience which should increase our potential to raise proceeds for the hospital. It will also help AFG make community links in Rochdale.”
Marie Brennan added: “Georgina has been running the stall and has been responsible for selling the books. This has been brilliant for Georgina. It not only gives her work experience and access to her local community, but additional skills and confidence. It’s a great opportunity for AFG to give back to the community of Rochdale, with the aim of sourcing voluntary placements or employment for the people we support.”
Georgina said: “I have really enjoyed running the book stall for two weeks running. We hope to match the Pure Innovations book stall in Oldham which raised up to £150 each week.”
We always need more stock so please donate your unwanted books to any local AFG office. Thanks you!
