Susan’s supermarket sweep

Earlier this month, Susan, supported in Lancaster, went to her local supermarket for the very first time.

Susan’s support workers planned and supported her to experience shopping locally in her community, promoting choice, independence and involvement. Susan enjoyed choosing what food she wanted to buy and the staff had a great day out too!

Susan’s support workers helped her by directing her to the shelves and using verbal prompts and hand gestures to encourage Susan to make her own choices.

Debbie, Support Worker at AFG Lancaster said: “It’s amazing to see Susan progressing; having worked with Susan for such a long time we never thought we would get to this point”.
